Moving Day, Happy Day

If you have recently purchased or rented a new house or apartment, then you are likely already thinking about your upcoming move. While it is certainly a good idea to start thinking about what needs to be done early and avoid all of the unnecessary hurrying shortly before the planned day, there is absolutely no reason to start worrying about when it actually comes down to it. With a little bit of planning and some useful hints along the road, anybody can enjoy their move and get through the most exciting day with a simple smile on their face.

It all begins with figuring out who should be part of the move. If you feel brave and motivated enough to take the move on by yourself then you should start contacting people who can help you right away. The more friends, family and strong helping hands that you can get, the better. Unfortunately, a yes doesn’t always mean that you are actually going to receive the help you had hoped for on the day of your move. If, on the other hand, you decide to consult with a removalist and hire their team of experienced movers to help with your move then you should lose no time and find the removalist that is best suited to assist with your move. Once you have the question answered whether you are going to attempt your move by yourself or with help it’s going to be time to start the preparations for your move.

Somebody for the kids

When it comes to moving day, many little things are simply forgotten about. In some cases, that may even include the kids of the family. While they are certainly more important than any piece of furniture and any box that needs to be moved, sometimes they don’t receive any special attention when they would be deserving of some. Especially when a move is planned that will take the entire day, or even longer, it is very important that there is somebody who dedicates the time to spend with the kids. Although your small kids may initially say that they are all excited about the move and ready to help with boxes, furniture and little stuff, don’t actually expect that great attitude to stay that way once the first couple of hours of the move have passed. Once the first few boxes have been carried in and they have had their fun lifting a box or two, it will be clear that it would have been wiser to find somebody to watch them and spend all the time with them that they need. Ideally, you should find somebody who is willing to watch them away from the move, at a place where they can have fun, play games and do as kids do without having to be part of the move. It will make the move much nicer and easier for everybody involved, but most importantly for your kids.

Take only what you need sounds much like somebody the authorities might say if an area needs to be evacuated in the most hurry. However, in this case it isn’t meant quite as drastically. You certainly aren’t limited to two pairs of underwear, a sweater and a photo album. You should feel free to pack as many of the things you own, but still ask yourself whether you really need what you are currently holding in your hands. Your move can be the perfect time to get rid of some of the junk that has undoubtedly somehow found its way into your closets, basement or attic. No matter how hard you try to keep things out that you don’t really need, old toasters, spare blankets and other items that simply seemed too valuable to toss at the time will find their way into your storage spaces.

Use your move to make some space and remember that you will only have to carry those things that you are actually planning on keeping. Everything else, between the items that you would like to sell and those that are simply rubbish, you will be able to take care of long before your move and save yourself the extra weight during the moving day.

If it turns out that there is a whole lot of stuff that you want to get rid of, either by throwing it out or selling it, you may have to call upon a skip bin service and/or have a yard sale in order to get rid of everything. When it comes to trash, especially larger items that you want to toss will pose a problem. Most garbage pickup services will require you to pay money for oversize loads. Therefore, cut down the big pieces that are trash and make sure to pack them as neatly as possible. That way you won’t have trouble with your trash or move when the day finally arrives.

I’d like to commend David and his team for the efficient and excellent customer service they have provided us. His team arrived 20 mins earlier than the arranged time, did a quick assessment of how long the move will take and got the job done. David and his team was courteous as well!

We moved yesterday and the two men arrived on time, we estimated for a two hour move (one bedroom granny flat) and came in at two hours which was great as I was stressing about money. The guys didn’t muck around and I was very pleased with the service.
