Moving into Your New Home

The time is finally here that you move into your new home. Excitement has probably encompassed your entire being by now, as has anticipation. Now that you’ve finally gotten all the packing done, you’ve felt a weight lift off your shoulders. In order to keep this stress away, you’ll want to apply further organizational techniques to ensure that you’re moving in goes a lot smoother than you’re moving out.

The day before your move, you’ll want to have a trusted friend or family member look after the children for a few hours. This will give you enough time to go over to your new residence and get some cleaning done.

You’ll need:

  • A mop
  • A vacuum cleaner
  • A bucket
  • Cleaning liquid for the floors
  • Cloths
  • A duster
  • Toilet brush
  • Toilet cleaner
  • Window cleaner
  • Newspaper
  • Gloves

Moving into a new home, you want to ensure that everything is nice and sanitary, dust and germ free, for you and your family. Take the time out to scrub and wipe. Open up the windows and allow some fresh air in.

If you have packed a box with toiletries, now would be a good time to take them over to your new home. You can get the bathroom ready with towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper and other essentials after you have given it a good cleaning.

Once this is all done, head home, get some rest and prepare for moving day.

On the big day, you’ll want to ensure that all your boxes have labels that are secure and easy to read. Ask your removalist to place the boxes that they are transporting into the appropriate rooms. By doing this, you won’t have to worry about lifting boxes and you’ll be able to unpack easier and faster since the only thing that will be required, is removing the items from the boxes and putting them in drawers, shelves, etc.

Stop at the grocery store and pick up some snacks and juices for the children. You’ll want to have these so that they are able to satisfy their hunger throughout the day. As soon as you get to your new place, plug in the refrigerator and give it some time to cool up. By the time dinner rolls around, your refrigerator may not be at the right temperature and thus, not ready for items to be stored. As a result, you may want to consider having food delivered to your home or going out for dinner.

Start unpacking boxes as soon as possible. Have the children help out, by getting them to sort through the boxes that contain their clothing, and toys and place them in their designated locations, toy boxes, drawers etc. If you have younger children, you may want to consider having your friends or family members help out again while you get the unpacking done.

Try to get your children’s rooms set up as soon as possible. This will allow them to have their own place that is free of chaos, as the rest of the house will be packed with boxes and wrapped furniture.

Next, get your bedroom arranged. Make the bed, sort out clothing in the closets and dressers etc. Once this is done, you’ll want to take care of the living room. However, avoid having to do any drilling, nailing or painting on the first day. Leave this for when all the boxes are packed away to avoid getting things dirty.

I’d like to commend David and his team for the efficient and excellent customer service they have provided us. His team arrived 20 mins earlier than the arranged time, did a quick assessment of how long the move will take and got the job done. David and his team was courteous as well!

We moved yesterday and the two men arrived on time, we estimated for a two hour move (one bedroom granny flat) and came in at two hours which was great as I was stressing about money. The guys didn’t muck around and I was very pleased with the service.
